Planning
for Real uses simple models as a focus for people
to put forward and prioritise ideas on how their
area can be improved. It is a highly visible tool,
which people of all abilities and backgrounds
find easy and enjoyable to engage in. |
A large 3-dimensional
model of an area is constructed using cardboard
cut-outs for buildings pasted onto a base plan
fixed to polystyrene. The model is then used at
pre-advertised sessions held in various locations
in the community. Participants place suggestion
cards on the model indicating what they want to
see happen (e.g. playground, parking, standpipe,
tree, shopping) and where (this is easy when you
have a model to put your suggestion card on). |
It’s starting
to look like a town! |
|
|
The cards are recorded,
noting what they are,Th where they have been
placed and how many. From this a list of what
the community wants is established, prioritised
into short, medium and long-term projects. An
Action Plan is the final outcome - a powerful
tool which focuses on getting things get done!
|
Patience and concentration are evident… |
It looks like our town at last! |
