Advocacy North-East
We provide a generic advocacy service for people aged
16 years and over
who
are feeling isolated or vulnerable and may be experiencing
difficulty in making their needs known. Advocates assist
people to obtain information needed to permit them to
make an informed choice and decide their own course
of action. They help clients to put their views across,
to enable them to achieve a greater level of personal
independence and control over their
own
lives.

Can-Do
Community Recycling
Can-Do was established in 1989 to promote the recycling
of both aluminium and steel used beverage containers
(UBC). Can-Do Community Recycling was born out
of a genuine desire, by a group of people with disabilities,
to develop a conservation project through a recycling
initiative.

North
Aberdeenshire Learning Disability Forum
What
is the North Aberdeenshire Learning Disability
Forum?
The
North Aberdeenshire Learning Disability Forum
was set up more than ten years ago, bringing together
representatives with learning disabilities from
Banff, Peterhead and Fraserburgh areas.
The
forum gives individuals opportunity to talk about
issues that are important to them such as housing,
transport, bus passes and retirement age from
the day centres. We always have refreshments and
sometimes we meet socially too. Peterhead hosted
a great Burns night last year and Banff treated
us to a games night.
The
group invites comments from the representatives
on what they think about the service they receive
from both the health board and the social work
department. These views are put over to the policy
makers of these departments at the SOG (Strategic
implementation Group). We also invite speakers
to help us keep abreast of new developments and
for clarification of difficult issues. If you
have a learning disability this is the place to
put your point of view across, come along and
make your voice heard!
Meetings
are on the last Monday of every second month in
the evening. Transport is provided from each area
(For example Peterhead to Fraserburgh, Fraserburgh
to Banff) For more information ring Alex

The
Stigma.org.uk website is produced and edited by
Andrew Brown, and John Crook, who comprise an
informal group. We have developed this website
to tackle head on the issue of how stigma affects
the majority of people who have physical, mental
and social difficulties. We are also in
the situation of having to defend ourselves against
injurious comments from others and also feelings
of inadequacy brought about by media generated
opinions regarding such things as mental and physical
health issues and including social causes of stigma.
We are convinced that our website is going to
be successful and we are adding information regularly
that we hope will help others to learn about stigma,
educate others and thereby change the future for
themselves and also other people affected by stigma
in any way. We have also started a forum
at: www.ChangeYourLifeToday.net
which runs through the Stigma.org.uk portal
where you can register your interest and post
your own comments. |
