Blue Light Festival / Strongman Event

The 7 th ANNUAL Bluelight festival held in Fraserburgh attracted huge crowds of visitors and has been described as “the best yet” By organisers.The weekend offers the wider community the chance to see the work of the emergency services. To kick start the weekend, a fun quiz night was held at the royal British legion in Fraserburgh, which attracted around a dozen teams and raised £289. The event has been described as “a big success” and an enjoyable evening. On Saturday, Fraserburgh life boat crew were planning to undertake a demonstration in Fraserburgh Lifeboat at Fraserburgh Harbour, however, because of the weather, the event had to be cancelled.Meanwhile, the Fraserburgh Strongman Competition, organised by Steve Evans that afternoon did go as planned at the Leisure Centre.

 

 

A combined Fire, Police and Ambulance team simulated road collision involving a motorcycle and a car, was well received by spectators and demonstrated the need for motorcyclists to wear the correct gear and be as visible as possible when out and about on the roads.This year a team young Grampian Fire Brigade Cadets, based in Peterhead took part in a couple of fun exercises against the retained fire fighters from Fraserburgh.There were also entertainers: the Skip to the Beat, The Anne Buchan dancers, New Pitsligo, the Fraserburgh RBL Pipe Band and the Turriff Silver Band.

A strongman competition featuring a number of local participants showed off their strength with a number of challenging feats.

 

The Fraserburgh-Bressuire Twinning Association a Food Fayre within the Leisure Centre. The backdrop to the Fayre was a set painted by Brian and Alan Leel featuring a Parisian café scene. During the event, they were serving food tasters to visitors.They also had New Age Curling, organised by Alistair Williamson from the Aberdeen and District Disabled Multisport Coaching Group. The Twinning Association is the work in partnership with this group to organise the friendly games in August. DG Anderson was also there to show off some of their wines and Bicocchi’s with some ice cream treats.Members of the lifeboat crew laid on a barbecue and there were donuts on sale during the afternoon.

There was also an opportunity for local charitable groups and organisations within the local area to raise their profile and at the same time generate much-needed funds which attracted around 30 different groups.The whole event was rounded off with a concert in the Dalrymple Hall and Arts Centre that evening with music by Celtic Spirit. The whole evening was compared by local entertainer, Robert Lovie.To tie in with the Festival, the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses re-lit Kinnaird Head Lighthouse in Fraserburgh for the first time in 18 years on Saturday 16 th May.The concept of Re-lighting Kinnaird Head Lighthouse came from one of the staff at The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses. With the support of The Northern Lighthouse Board and Historic Scotland it was agreed to light up on 16 th May,2009 to coincide with the European Night if the Museum and more locally with Fraserburgh’s Blue Light festival.
