Over 150,000 gannets, fulmars, guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and puffins cram together on the dramatic cliff ledges of the RSPB’s Troup head nature reserve. It is a truly impressive spectacle and is home to only Scotland’s only mainland gannet colony, which has grown from only four pairs in 1988 to over 1,500 pairs in 2006.
Located between Fraserburgh and Macduff on the north coast of Aberdeenshire, Troup head is perhaps the least well known of Scotland’s spectacular seabird colonies. For the best view, you can now join RSPB guides aboard Puffin Cruises from Macduff for a breathtaking trip along this dramatic coastline.
It’s not just seabirds that await your visit. You may be lucky enough to see bottlenose dolphins, seals and harbour porpoises with minke whales visiting this part of the Moray Firth during the summer periods.
RSPB guided boat trips leave from Macduff harbour every Tuesday, weather dependent, duration, 3 hours. These boat trips are suitable for all ages. For more information, contact RSPB on 01346 532234. |
